Docu night and Q&A | Fighting for justice in Mexico

During this docu night, Peace Brigades International & Shelter City Utrecht will share the inspiring story of David Augusto Jiménez Mireles, a Mexican human rights defender who accompanies families of missing persons. Dutch Ambassador for Human Rights Bahia Tahzib-Lie will kick off the webinar, followed by David Jiménez and PBI Mexico volunteer Marleen Folkerts.

At the age of 26, David already has more than six years of experience in working in the context of forced disappearances, the war on drugs and gender-based violence. The state where David lives, Coahuila, is a US-Mexico border state known for migration routes, narcotraffic and femicides. Human rights violations, including and forced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and torture happen on a daily basis, not only in the state of Coahuila, but throughout the entire country.

Mexico is currently one of the most dangerous countries for human rights defenders, especially for those who, like David, address forced disappearances. To raise awareness on human rights violations in Mexico, we organise this short documentary with an in-depth discussion.
