Latin America suffers, maybe more than any other region on Earth, from a political climate which breeds impunity among security forces and armed groups. Political interests and corruption remain strong barriers to justice.
About Chocolate de Paz:
In the war-torn regions in Northern Colombia, armed groups frequently terrorise and displace populations. In the midst of conflict, neutrality is grounds for suspicion and an act of resistance. Chocolate of Peace depicts the Peace Community of San José de Apartadó’s experiences of resistance, via a journey through their processes of organic chocolate production. From the seed to the product, the cacao is the narrative thread that takes us through the Community’s stories of violence and resilience, and their fight to remain neutral in the face of the Colombian armed conflict.
Through its refusal to take sides, the Peace Community of San José de Apardó offers an inspiring example of resilience in the face of great difficulties and of unwavering commitment to peace through human and economic relationships. Chocolate de Paz invites us to rethink our relationship with food, it invites us to think about those who produce it, their efforts and struggles but also their love and pride in their work.
